I get this question a lot and the simple answer is that I'm coming home to my ancestral land as my Great Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandfather traveled here with their 10 children and succeeded in obtaining farmland during the land run of 1889.
Like so many tourists, I have a fondness of Guthrie's history and it's architecture. I will dance off one of these buildings some day.
I plan on starting a new performance company or two hopefully, create and build new performances for the live stage or for site-specific and non-traditional performance venues, bring interest to the history of the buildings and their original occupants and customers, teach students young and old, build the ancestral land into a farm/ retreat/and performance venue and more...
I was a member of Diavolo (Los Angeles 2001-04') seen by millions on Americas Got Talent in 2017 making it to the final. Many of those pieces were created years before and the 18 ft tall DreamCatcher was created during my era. Dia= Day volo=Fly Diavolo- We fly in our day!
The Rachel Rosenthal Company is where I started in Los Angeles. She I've had the opportunity to work with Bandaloop, De La Guarda (Las Vegas), LA Opera's Moby Dick and The Ring, Spiderman Broadway (during creative development process of aerial portions), and more.
I have many family members that were important figures in the advancement of civil rights through art and writing and activism. Outside of them, Rachel Rosenthal was my greatest influence as a young artist. She took me on as her protege and taught me how to be the artist that I am today. There are many others from my UCLA Grad School professor Vic Marks, to Jacques Heim of Diavolo, to Kim Epifano in San Francisco, and more.
Rachel Rosenthal for her work in the Los Angeles community was awarded the 4th Living Cultural Treasure Award. Her legacy has brought me to the fundamental understanding that artist give back to society in the most beautiful of ways that effect positive growth for the planet and all of it's beings.
